honestly, one can dream. I think the CRTC would have to get involved at some point for this to happen. But with little compeition here in Canada, and because data is so vaulable it might be a while, but who knows. Remeber at one point we had "x" amount of text messages per month, now we have unlimited
I would want data.... way more. Unlimited would be sweet !
And I would actually be willing to pay for it too (if it was cheap enough). Maybe start with 6GB a month as part of the plan, but then buy a Data Addon for $4/GB or cheaper.
@paulie $4/GB add-ons would be quite amazing, but I think that's probably lower than we will see anytime in the forseeable future. I could see maybe $10/GB, maybe. Even that might be a stretch, given the current [admittedly ridiculously high] pricing of $30/GB.
If it was $4/GB I would asume all of Canada would sign up ! Might clog the network ? lol...then current PM subscribers would be upset !
Certainly I would have no issue at all paying for it even if it was like 100 GB at a time type of package (ie: fork out $400). I pay $40/month for home internet, and that is fixed. Today's life style is mobile. I want access to oodles of mobile data, whether I'm at home, travelling, going to friends cottage, etc. Even with fixed (wired) home internet, the prices are dropping. Or price is the same but the speed is doubled/ultra fast.
Im familiar with Onstar and that unlimited plan are only for US consumers and on the AT&T network. AT&T doesnt bid on Canadian network Spectrum. The US has been on unlimited data for number of years. It's main-stream for everyone in the States.
Data is a cash cow for Canadian telecommunication companies. That's their only crutch left before everything in the Big 3 have nowhere else to turn to but to increase base prices.
Careful what you wish for though. 3 year plans were $55 a month with 2Gb-4Gb. Now for the same service, we are paying $95++ a month.
