In the US pre paid phone companies such as NET10 and Straight Talk sell phones at Walmart. Why can't PM do the same. Doesn't have to have all the bells and whistles. Just needs to have minimum for basic users. Thus would attract older users the network or people who don't need a fancy phone.

One thing not mentioned: if PM starts selling hardware, that means the mods will be responsible for hardware support, which means increased support requests, which means possibly needing to hire more mods, which means increased costs.  So yeah, hard pass.

https://www.getorchard.com/?pm=1 So this is the official hardware reseller Public Mobile partners with, this is their method of offering devices while still keeping costs down. I think it's a good idea and useful for people wanting to keep costs down as well.

Walmart sells unlocked phones already in their stores

The only thing I can see adding is if Telus asks to display the Public logo on compatible (locked) Koodo or Telus handsets

But usually (esp with Telus) they sell the phone cheaper based on assumpton you activate that SIM inside the box

I would like to see PM do this, and maybe seeing some variety, EVEN some fairly good LTE and decent specs, EVEN at $400, would be fair
