I haven't really paid that much attention to the badges that we can earn.  I notice badges were offered for starting new threads in the community forum.  I suggest that be replaced by participation in threads whether started by one self our others.  If I don't really have any issues to bring up requiring resolution or my issues require use of private messages, I don't have any reasons to start new threads in the community forum.  That does not necessarily reflect on my level of participation.  I don't want to create threads just to earn a badge.

You're talking about replies made to topics.  This is already reflected in your "total messages posted" stat.  When rewarding members, I think PM gives more weight to total participation stats, including number of messages posted, solutions authored, bravos received, bravos given, ideas posted, etc., as they should, since these would be more reflective of a member's contribution than badges.  Some of these numbers, especially messages posted, and even bravos received, would swamp the number of badges.  After all, it's not very practical to have a badge for every level of that statistic (e.g. badge for 1 reply made, 3 replies, 5 replies, 10, 50, 100...), when that number can reach into the hundreds or even thousands, while simply looking at the total for any given month will provide a more complete picture anyway.

Indeed.  While they've been pretty hush hush about exactly how the participation rewards are calculated, the "threads started" badges are unlikely to be a huge part of that calculation - because these forums are primarily help forums, not discussion forums, so there isn't really need to start new threads unless you have a problem 🙂

@will13am are you concerned about your participation toward earning rewards?  If so, I don't think the badges are actually considered.  Instead it's your activity.  The badges are just a fun little way to acknowledge certain activities.

Nice to know I won't get "punished" for not starting enough threads.  I should try my level best to get my badges nonetheless.  It's like a trophy case thing.

@will13am

Based on the stats that I can see in your profile, I don't think you need to worry that you'll get one of the upper reward levels.  Smiley Happy  (That is, assuming the system doesn't have another glitch like last time.)

@SD08would you happen to know what day of the month is the cutoff for determing the rewards?

Rewards are based on each calendar month.  They will be assessed around this time the following month, give or take a couple of days, and usually credited to your self-serve account by the time or just before they make their monthly announcement for top contributors.  Here was the announcement for the previous month of November 2016:

http://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/Announcements/Top-Contributors-November-2016-2-New-Ora...

Generally, you'll only be mentioned by username there if you make it to the top 0.1% or 0.5% of contributors, or very near to it. Otherwise, just look for your reward $ amount in self-serve.

It was mentioned in a different thread that the rewards have been added to the accounts already.  I just checked.  I made to 0.5% honor roll this past month.

See, I knew you'd make it to a high reward level.  Congrats! Smiley Happy
