When switching cellphone numbers, Can you make up a new number to use as your own instead of the choosing the cellphone numbers that public mobile gives you?
I heard that you can use your old cell number from your old provider and it can be transferred to public mobile.
But what if you want a completely new number that you can make up and use as your own? is this possible?

@Anonymous, there is an option upon first activation to guess at a 4 digit combination, but getting it isn’t guaranteed. After activation, the only options for a new number are picking from a list provided to the customer, or porting in from another provider a already active number.

I don't recall seeing an option to search for your preferred numbers. I only recall seeing a drop down list that went on for quite a while. But maybe I wasn't looking to select a particular number so I didn't "see" that option.

You cannot create your own number as it may be in used already. Each provider has their own set of numbers. Since you are planning to join PM, you can search for the number you like. This search will cover the numbers used by PM/Telus/Koodo. Similarly, you can buy a $1 Vigin Moible SIM card from eBay and search for the Bell/Virgin/Lucky numbers. You can buy a Fido SIM for $3.60 to search for the Rogers/Fido/Chatr number. You have search for most of available numbers after searching these 3 database. Try the new area code for your province you may find the number you want.. e.g. Alberta has a new 825 area code.
As @Dunkgirl suggested. You can also search Fongo numbers free of charge.

@LinuxUserThe best way to do it is go get fongo a free voip app. Choose a really cool number. wait 90 days. Then you can bring that number here for free.
Or wait 0 days and pay them $25

No. There's porting a number from a different provider, and selecting a number from the drop-down list. When you're initially signing up, that list can be quite long. After sign-up, the list gets shortened to just a few.

@LinuxUserNo. Not when switching numbers. But when you first sign up they let you try and customize the last 4 digits.

Yes. Old as in other provider and still active that you are going to move to public mobile. Move be the key word. Not create out of nothing. Can be done for new account porting in and existing account transfer number in self serve.
No. Old as in no longer yours, deactivated account. Closed account. Not your number currently.

Only the last 4 digits when you first activate.
