using old phone with a new sim card

Hi,

I broke my iPhone which had an esim, I am using an old phone and I purchased a sim card at the store for it.

I can send and receive calls but can not send and receive text messages. 

please help

Thank you, I have done that about 2 hours ago. Now some people texts are coming through and others not.

hi @Shelleynleg are you using sms or iMessage?? 

check settings on iMessage and see if the phone number is correct Even if is, remove it and then reboot and put the number back
