Voicemail not working

Jovi

My voicemail is showing an unknown error message when I try to call it.  I do have talk on my plan so that's not the problem.  Does anyone have any ideas as to how to fix it?  I have an iphone 11.  Thanks!  : )

Thanks, I have tried switching airplane mode off and on and tried rebooting my iphone.  I will try Apple and if they don't know how to resolve it, I will reach out to a moderator.

Thanks so much for your help!

@Jovi

Hmm brand new phone & brand new account.

Try these.

1- try airplane mode for a few minutes. Turn off reboot phone. try again. If not working #2

2 - reset network settings. Reboot phone then try. Note you will lose saved wifi passwords. If not working after that #3

3- Plug phone with wire and connect to computer. Open iTunes and see if it pushes any updates. Carrier updates or any update. Update them all. Still not working #4

4 - reach out to moderators.

@Jovi I haven't had to do it in awhile but it is possible to program/change/set up the voicemail number in your phone. Google make and model for directions. That should get you at least started.

Yes, I'm am new to Public Mobile.

No, I did not transfer my number from another company.

Everything else works on my iphone - it's brand new!

@Jovi  see my last post. Let us know before reaching apple. Thanks.

Yes, I can call my voicemail with the number you listed below.  Hmm, wondering if the problem is with my iphone.  I will try contacting Apple later.

Thanks so much!  : )

@Jovi  when I call my cell number from my phone it goes "Please enter your password" (4 digit voicemail password) then I am in my voicemails.

So you're saying you pick up your cell phone, open the dial pad, dial your cell number, press call then it rings and you're voicemail message plays like "Hey not available leave me a message" then you're able to leave yourself a messages?

This is weird.

Did you just join Public Mobile?.

Did you transfer your number from another company?

Has the transfer been fully completed?

Like does everything else work on your phone?

Outgoing AND incoming calls?

Text in and out (NOT IMESSAGE)?

DATA?

Now I'm thinking if you ported your number and the port is stuck or not complete is the cause of this. What do you guys think @computergeek541 @Anonymous ????

Typically while a port is in process or stuck. Calls go to your old providers SIM card and people get your voicemail.

If you're calling your own number from your phone and you get to leave a voicemail message rather than hear your voicemails. Leads me to think your porting a number in from another provider?

Can you confirm this please? And give us some details if you did transfer a number from another company. Like how long ago? From what company? Did you get a text from old company to authorize the port?

You can still try listening to your voicemail. If it work it might not..call your cell number again. When your voicemail message starts to play. PRESS STAR BUTTON * See what happens.

@Jovi : But what happens when you use your dialer and like calling any number...you dial 17785804001. Does it get to your voicemail?

Thanks for your suggestions!

Unfortunately, I don't have another phone to test out the SIM card.

Yes, when I try calling the voicemail on my iphone, it gives me the error messa.

And yes, I have called my phone and left a test voicemail.  That seems to be working but I can't retrieve it.  So I guess the number is programmed.

Thanks.

I would try your SIM card in another phone. The reason for this? Unlike APN settings (which are not on the SIM card), your voicemail deposit and retrieval number (and SMSC number - unrelated to voicemail) are saved/programmed on your SIM card. If the voicemal numbers are blank on the SIM card, you'll have this same issue on any phone.

While the numbers can be manually saved to the phone (you could even program in your own phone number to get to your voicemail after holding 1), the correct settings should have been sent through the network and written to the SIM card. I know from personal experience that immediately after activation or a phone number change, the number doesn't always get immediately updated, but a simple restart of the phone can often fix that. Otherwise, a moderator would be needed to arrange for the correct voicemail number to be pushed through the network to your SIM card.

@Jovi  there's not a point at this time to contact moderators. Until you do the trouble shooting. Which we are trying with you right now. Its likely the voicemail number is not programmed in your phone.

So you press the voicemail box or press 1 to dial voicemail or wtv it is on an Iphone. And you get an error correct??

Like this button.

Screenshot_20210107_140524.jpg

Is that when you get the error???

Can you call your actual cell phone number. It should bring you to your voicemail.

Example. If your phone # is 5142234545. Then call 5142234545.  You should be brought to your voicemail.

Does it bring it to voicemail when your call your number??

At this point without trying to trouble shoot first to determine if it is a phone issue (which I think it likely is) or a Public Mobile issue. There's not a need to contact moderators yet until that is determined.

Ooops, I thought I was suppose to try that after I entered the number, didn't realize the instructions were for programming the voicemail number.  LOL

And yes, I just tried it and it said that I don't have talk!  Do I need to contact a moderator?

Thanks so much for your help!  You're a SUPERSTAR!

@Jovi  I gave you instructions on my last post to try to program your voicemail number. Have you not tried it?

Jovi
Good Citizen / Bon Citoyen

I think that probably is problem because it's not dialing out to any number.  I don't know how to program the voicemail number into my phone.  It doesn't seem to give me that option.  I am wondering if Public Mobile does this?  And do you know who I want contact to see if they can reset my voicemail?

@Jovi  try programming the voicemail number into your phone. You may be receiving the error due an invalid voicemail number or no number at all.

Try this. Hopefully it works.

Voicemail# is (1- Your area code - 580 - 4001). Example 14385804001

Once you have the voicemail number and are ready to program it into your iPhone, open your dialpad as if you were to place an outgoing call and enter:*5005*86*VOICEMAIL# then hit Call/SendNote:

After hitting Send/Call, the iPhone screen will flash but nothing will happen. This means that you’ve entered the code successfully. You can now test your voicemail button to see if it’s working.

If it doesn’t work on the first try, make sure you’re entering the correct voicemail number and try again. You must sometimes include the country code (Example: +1 for US) with or without the + sign.

Keep us posted.

Thanks for your response!

My voicemail box is working although I have no idea what my mailbox number is ... is it my phone number?

And, I am pressing the "call voicemail" icon on my iphone when trying to access my voicemail.

Thanks again : )

Thank you for your prompt response!

I tried rebooting my iphone then going into general settings to find carrier update but none showed.  My voicemail is activated because I can leave a voicemail but when I try to call my voicemail from my iphone I get the following message:  "Error performing request.  Unknown Error"

Any other suggestions?

@Jovi  What's the error?

Are you pressing one to get to your voicemail and it's not working?. Maybe the number is not programmed on your phone?

If you call your actual cell number from your phone don't use another phone. Does it bring you to your voicemail?

Not sure what you mean by "showing an unknown error message".

Try dialing 17785804001 and see if you get to the voicemail system.

  • Easy things first - reboot the phone.
  • Go to settings - General - about: if a carrier update is offered install it
  • Call your phone from another and try to access voicemail
