Usage discrepancy - how to drill in?

Somehow, my usage history shows that I used 4.4 Gb all at once in one day.  On that day I was with my family at Canada's Wonderland.  I don't play any games on my phone, and I don't use it for social media... what could have caused all of my data to get used in one morning of walking around with my phone in my bag?

Personally, I turn data off for every single app that isn't a know privacy app, because lots of apps send you advertising that uses up lots of data. Privacy apps such as Signal and Tutanota and Proton etc never track you or steal your info or send you ads etc unlike google and many of the mainstream tech companies.

Another thing to consider is if somehow a spying app has been secretly installed on your phone, because maybe the data used was to transmit infomation from your phone camera or phone mic live in real time without your knowlege.

@LauraGates  If you had the hotspot turned on in (open) mode then you might have made a lot of people happy at Wonderland since a lot of people have their phones to automatically connect to open hotspots.

On iphones, go to settings then go to mobile data. then check your app usage one by one to see what app uses the most data - then see if that usage matches the 4GB usage. If you want to be sure not to use mobile data for certain apps, you can make sure certain apps never use data by turning off the mobile data for each app one by one, that way you'll only turn it off for the apps you don't trust - like facebook or other similar apps that spy on you.

I bought an additional Gb, which should carry me through.

Unfortunately, I can't see for sure.  My Data and Add-On Usage looks like this (even though I'm able to surf off wifi...):  Message.PNG

If you are on android you can actually check your usage in settings then mobile data, you can change the period to see which apps used the data and how much.

I suggest restricting background data on everything non essential.

At the beginning of September pm will give you1gig of free data, sometimes after 4th, do you think you have enough allowance until then?

If not you can also ask moderators to renew you early

iPhone 5S.  App usage since August 1st doesn't show much of anything.  Certainly nothing in the Gb level...

Holy guacamole.

Did you even have your data on? Do you have hotspot on? Do you have a decent password for the hotspot?

An OS update along with app updates shouldn't take that much but who knows.

@LauraGates, what phone are you using?  Can you check app usage logs on the phone to corroborate this consumption of data.  My guess is there must have been some sort of sync activity going on or a large high definition video was streamed.
