Here is how to check to see if it is unlocked. Find someone with a Bell or Rogers or any other working SIM  card that is not related to the Telus array of mobile plans (Koodo Public Mobile)....if it works..... it is unlocked. And another test is if you have iTunes on a computer. Take the 5S and back it up to iTunes. Then run and full reset on the phone using iTunes. The last page of the process with say "Congratulations your iPhone is unlocked" BUT only if it is unlocked. Then restore the phone from the backup. The 5S is an older phone that would have likely been locked at time of purchase..unless it was purchased at the Apple Store and in that case it should be unlocked.

reading whats posted here so far sounds like your iphone 5s is locked to Telus or Koodo, and you would like it unlocked, call the provider to which phone is locked asked them to unlock it. did that my self to a phone locked to Rogers and they unlocked it

I've quickly looked through this thread and a few people have mentioned that this iPhone 5s is already unlocked.  From the information provided so far, I do not see any indication of that. This phone could very well have been sold by Telus or Koodo and still be locked.  It could also be unlocked if it was purchased as factory unlocked or from carrier other than Telus/Koodo. At present, any such declaration about unlock status would be a guess.

The only way to know for sure would be try using a sim card from a non-Telus brand and see if it works.

If the phone is still carrier locked, which it may very well be, you'll need to go to https://publicmobile.ca.ada.support/chat and open a ticket to the moderators to have them process an unlock request.

If your previous carrier was PM your phone is already unlocked.

@fishcake1

If she wants to use it with another provider, remove the SIM card. Done.

The phone does not need to be unlocked. Get a new SIM card with the provider she wants to use insert thw new SIM activate it and she will be on her way.

Wait are you planning on using it through PM? If so you don’t need to unlock. Are you sure it’s even locked? Try putting in a SIM card and see if it works
