Just got this carrier for the unlimited calling! (province wide calling/no text $22 ) for my elderly dad who has severe heart trouble. Reception is good...however, local calling only works for other cell phone numbers! Landlines (even across the street) cannot be completed as they say they are long distance and need an add on. W..? Am glad I bought the voucher to try for a month!

@calvin12 hopefully you get things sorted out.
as a side note do you think you could try sending an sms to you dad to see if it is received? I am trying to understand how the no texting option works in real life. ie no texts 100% or just the inability to send them. I have a talk and text plan for my dad he doenst text but occasionally pple text him.
I ask becasuei i know when i travel to teh USA receiving texts should not work but it does. or when traveling to another province incoming calls should not work but they do.
thanks

To add to what stonechucker stated,....."If it's a call to a number in the same Province, then there will be no added charge"....if it is NOT within the same province the call just will not go through if you do not have the Canada-wide calling plan, and you still will not be charged

Please listen to the entire message, as MOST times, it's a warning to say the call is actually a LD call, however, the message also will say LD charges *MAY* apply. If it's a call to a number in the same Province, then there will be no added charge.
Yes, dialing +1 then the number will help limit this message, but sometimes, new area codes and local exchanges are not fully setup properly, and you'll need to advise Public Mobile of your issues.
Public Mobile does not include 'local calling areas' in the Province wide plan, nor the Canada Wide plan, so hiccup do happen.
I've had 3 such setup issues, and fully expect more as my geographic area codes now have an additional 2nd area code overlay.

Within province could still be a long-distance call. As stated above, try putting a 1 in front of the area code. Should work if you are not in a border town.

@calvin12, I will assume that the number you took for your dad's was in his province. That said, any chance he lives near the province border? Sometimes a cell tower from a neighbouring province could pick up the signal, and think he is in that province. Where is he located, and what are code is his number in?
If everything is 'normal' on the setup side, then there could be a glitch in the system. For that, you would need to send a private message to the moderators team so that they could investigate on their end.

Try adding +1 in front of numbers that are in your phone book. Sometimes that solves the issue.
