More likely scenario is your current / previous carrier's records got hacked / leaked exposing your/ your friend's call records.

What about.....where does the OP leave phone unattended......does it have an Unshared password....friends pranking or revengeful partner?

I understand it might be just spoofing, I got this all the time from number similar to my own. But happens between 2 known person? yes, it is possible .. but what is the chance.
I just worry if OP phones got hacked and something running behind?

SMS spoofing at work. No different than spam calls.
