Public mobile is all self service. When you activate your plans with PM, you will be offered option to port over number to PM.

So I just do that when I order my service I just say porting over phone #

You can port your number to another carrier but the PM account must be active. The new carrier will do everything else for them. Your account will automatically close once porting is completed so if you need to look at your previous payments or need to print them out. Do it before your account is closed.
