If you're porting a phone number in from another carrier, you'll need to keep that old carrier's SIM card until your phone at least until after replying to a text message from the old carrier to approve the phone number transfer. It's really a less than idea situation for up to about a 2 hours later for which time some text messages and incoming calls will go to your old carrier's service while some will go to your new Public Mobile service. I would keep your old carrier's SIM card in your phone until the old carrier's service stops working.
