I have LineageOS 17.1 (Android 10) installed on a Galaxy S6 (SM-G920W8) and was having trouble with mobile data. I switched the preferred network type to 3G and it works now. LTE wasn't working for me as it's not available with Public Mobile. I know that others have recommended this fix but I didn't find it until now. I hope someone finds this useful.

@ericpman More than likely you need to install the correct modem firmware for your device. If you restore the device to the factory firmware it should work without any issues.

@ericpman I believe this is a software issue. If by chance LTE (recommended) was mistakenly programmed as LTE only, your phone calls wouldn't have worked.
Let's assume that your phone isn't at all LTE-compatible with Public Mobile. LTE as the preferred network settings means that your phone should have automatically changed network types.

@ericpman try resetting your network settings
lineage os could be causing software issues... or it could be a failed service on that rom. modded ROMs rarely support all features on a device

Thank you for the clarification but I wonder why I am having trouble when LTE is set. The phone supports those frequencies.

@ericpman I would leave it on 3G if it only works for you. + you may have a higher speed on it rather than on LTE throttled to 3Mbps

@ericpman LTE is available on PM, however the phone must have matching frequencies. Also, sometimes the 3G signal is better.
Network Frequencies at PM
4G LTE/LTE Advanced: 700 MHz, 850 MHz, 1900 MHz; 2100 MHz downlink with 1700 MHz uplink (AWS). PM throttles speed on these to 3 mbps.
HSPA (3G): 850 MHz, 1900 MHz (UMTS). N.B. Must have these for calls to work. Texting and data also work on the 3G frequencies.
