Hi! I have bought a sim card from public mobile and am trying to activate it right now, while also keeping my old number. The issue is, that when trying to transfer a number, the old service provider is required to cancel the plan and transfer that number, but my old provider, Simply Connect is not listed in the list of providers. I have tried talking to chatbot but still haven't found any answers and am wondering what I should do now. I really hope that my old number can be kept. Thanks in advance!!

first, check if the phone number can be ported here
https://secure.koodomobile.com/checktransfereligibilityparrot/default.do
(it is a Koodo site but the result applies here for PM)
then try to use Cityfone. Simply connect is owned by Cityfone, which actually owned by Rogers. Try that. Provide account number as the porting info if you have it
if still have trouble on that porting page, pick a temporary new number first and then you can open ticket with PM support and they can help to submit the porting request manually
