SIM Not Supported

Hi there, I currently have an iPhone X. My friend just gave me their iPhone 12 Pro Max. I put my SIM card into the 12 pro max, and I got the following notification "SIM Not Supported: the SIM you currently have installed in this iPhone is from a carrier that is not supported under the activation policy that is currently assigned by the activation server.
&#10:
 This is not a hardware issue with the iPhone.
&#10:
 Please install another SIM from a supported carrier or request that this iPhone be unlocked by your carrier."

How do I request that this iPhone be unlocked by public mobile?

Thank you,

The message means the iPhone was locked by the provider.  Ask your friend to call that provider to unlock

hi @lea111

this is not an issue with your PM sim card, and not an issue that PM can fix either.

the Phone was locked to the previous carrier.  You need to give it back to your friend and ask him to call his carrier where he got the phone from and ask them to unlock it.  The phone has to be unlocked before it can be used on another carrier

@lea111

You have to go to the carrier your friend who gave you the iPhone X from to have it unlocked.

Go to Settings-General-About and at the bottom under Carrier Lock…it will state the carrier who locked your iPhone.
