Depending on which company the new carrier is, the plan at the new carrier may have already started. Some carriers (Wind/Freedom prepaid is an example) used to allow a number to be ported in even if payment hadn't been made yet to pay for the new plan. However, not all prepaid carriers will do that, and if the new carrier's account is postpaid, the new plan has definitely already started.

Always better to port out near your renewal date so you take full advantage of the PM service since it is a prepaid service. Unfortunately no refund.
