How do I go about getting a refund? Although the IMEI number says my phone is ESIM compatible, when I try to activate my account it says not compatible.

PM is has a no refund policy. But in situation like that, they might issue refund. Please check with them. But also ask them to check why the eSIM is not working, maybe they can make it work
