Phone numbers

Anyone else have Public assign their number to someone else while they're still actively using it? I can't actually contact the other person but we have messages that there's two of us using the same number in a conversation. When my friend sends a message to me it goes to the other person, my messages go to her but not the other person and I can't receive messages from either my friend or the other person with my number. If my friend calls my number it comes through to me but texts go to the other person

The two of us with the same number are both with Public,  I've had the number almost a month and they told my friend they just activated

When I was with Rogers, I had a number that was originally from Rogers. Telus assigned it to one of their customers. Fortunately for me, all texts and calls still got to me, but I also received calls for the other person. Telus had to give their new customer a new phone number.

I have heard of things like this happening before.  Has your friend had this other person and confirm that they do have the same number as you?  It is weird that only texts go to the other number but calls go to you.  Do you receive any messages sent to her?
