I have an Asus Zenfone Max Plus. I bought it unlocked, back in September 2018 and had a Public Mobile sim card in it since. It's a two sim card slot smartphone, but my sim card has been working perfectly fine until now.
On December 1, 2018, I updated my phone's software (it runs on Android) but for some reason, my phone cannot recognize the sim card at all. Every time I tried inserting it in, it keeps reading unavailable, both on slot 1 and 2. I bought a new PM sim card, but it's the same story -- read unavailable.
However, things get weirder. It doesn't read Public Mobile sim cards, but it reads other sim cards from different companies like Koodo, Telus, Freedom, Rogers, etc. It's not a hardware issue, it's something else; Public Mobile related.
Can you help me solve this issue? Please and thank you.

Please reboot your phone and check again if it works wellSafe Mode does not start any installed apps. To find the problem app, start your installed app one at a time.

Nice find though popping. Seems to be a similar idea to Windows.
Edit: We need a brave soul to try it out and go Eureka! It's this app!

Safe Mode does not start any installed apps. To find the problem app, start your installed apps one at a time. Uninstall the problem app and restart your phone normally.

I EVEN factory reset my phone too. The problem was not solved.

Only resort is to reset the phone to factory status.
Since the sim works on other phone, it is the software update messaed it up.

I already did insert my sim card into another's phone. It was working just fine.

Read the follwoing thread on Asus Zenfone Max Plus to android 8.1
Try your SIM card on your friends phone to determine your PM SIM is still working. Then, concentrate your effort to find a solution to the hardware/firmware problem.

Android 8.1 strikes again. Dang.
