Any Telus number can for certainly come to PM (and Koodo) because Telus owns PM and it is the same system. Only explanation to this problem is that you already requested porting.

number from Telus can be ported into PM for sure
you can choose a new number as a temporary number first. After it is all setup, you can then open ticket with PM support and ask the agent to help to move the Telus number over
