I have a public mobile sim card in my current phone- I'm looking to upgrade my phone- can I simply swap the existing sim card into the new phone?

Hello from my understanding yes you just swap the sim from your current phone to your new phone. And it should automatically work

@Air - the account and phone number follow the sim card.

If you have a different size sim slot in the new phone simply remove or add adapters to make it fit.

Absolutely! That's the beauty of physical sim cards! It'll save you the hassle of having to activate a new card. If you had an ESim, you'd have to purchase a new one with your new phone however.

in short yes you can

Only in a situation where you had an esim would you have to purchase a new one. This is the best advantage of having a sim card.

@Air It is as easy as taking sim card out of old phone and putting it into new phone. Nothing else required.
