Hi there! This may be an issue with the phone settings. Make sure you have your data on entirely and make sure those apps you are having difficulties with are enabled to use data as well.
If you are using an iPhone, go to: Settings>Cellular>Cellular Data and make sure apps such as Safari and Google Maps are enabled.
Hope this helps!

@Tobtissen if it still isn't fixed. Reset your network settings and restart your phone if it doesn't automatically do so. 5he new Samsung's will install the required settings for you.

Sooooo....it works now?
@Tobtissen was replying to your response about the proxy.
I knew he had it wrong. But that's not saying it's working. I can _assume_ it's working now by the silence. But we don't know for sure.

Turn off your wifi while we're trying to figure out your cell data.

I think you just figured it out. The proxy should be blank.
Well we'll see. We need the rest of the settings still. Maybe he's working on that now.
Some of the settings could be slightly different too.

I think you just figured it out. The proxy should be blank. I remember that some carriers (including Koodo) used to use the proxy setting and if you didn't have that set, the self service tools wouldn't work. The proxy somehow verified your account identity. However, this same proxy would also cause problems logging into some e-mail or banking websites.

As you can use e-mail and Whatsapp, this doesn't appear to be an account issue. it sounds as if is an app issue. But first, can you check the APN type field? I would start with setting it to:
default,mms

Maybe you can post screenshots of the APN settings screens. Maybe someone will see something amiss.

You must be using wifi for gmail.
You need to have the correct APN settings.
What make/model/submodel is the phone?
One possible way is to turn on data. Turn off the phone. Turn phone back on. That might let it pick up the settings automatically.
