Leaving Wind

I currently have a wind tab owing on a phone. My question is do I call wind and settle this account or just go ahead and port through? I'm afaid if I call wind they will automatically cancel my account and then I will loose my number. Has anyone else ported from Wind to Public with a tab?

I submitted a port from Wind Mobile, when I clicked the Confirm button the request form with required information and checked the 'I am authorized to transfer this phone number', the first three tries, I saw the RED message 'You must be authorized to transfer this phone number' popped up above the confirm button.  Then I waited a few minutes, re-filled out the form again and clicked the confirm, and this time it went through with the successful message.  About 15 minutes later, I received a message from PM staying the transfer has been completed.   I tested it with my old number and everything works as expected.

Thanks!

@tqlam I concur with @computergeek541 : I never recommend people supply the IMEI number.  In my experience, best results are had if you enter your Wind account number, any number you can be reached at other than your Wind number or temporary PM number in the alternate contact box (work phone, spouse's phone, home phone, parent's phone, payphone down the street 😉 ), and finally your name exactly as it appears on your Wind statement or self-serve account as the authorized account holder name.

I wouldn't use an IMEI number at all when porting.  Just the Wind account number will be fine.

@WearySky the requirement is that you must be in good standing with the provider you are trying to leave for the port to be approved on their end.  An outstanding device balance should be automatically billed to you once they close the account.  I think where this can be a problem is if you have outstanding owed amounts.  For example, on a post-paid plan, you can be late making your payment and the service will keep working.  If you're in that situation, you need to pay the amount you owe for the service before the port will go through.  For pre-paid plans at other providers, the same is true that you can miss a payment, but chances are you won't have because your service would stop working.

@WearySky Agreed, i know when i ported from rogers, all is required was to port the number in the PM form, and when the final rogers bill is due, the balance of the phone payment was also due.

If you don't you may have issues getting your number ported out to PM.

Is this a Wind-specific thing?  Any other provider will just cancel your account when you initiate the port request, and send you a bill.

So what will happen is when you port your number over it will go to public mobile with no issues. Your wind account will then be closed and your remaining ballance will be calculated online and you will need to pay that. Simple as that.

Enjoy public mobile 🙂
