For YEARS I have never come even close to using the data I purchase each month - Except when the school board got hacked and I had to use data to access online learning tools.
The past two months I've been getting texts saying I used up all my data. I was sure that wasn't true. (I don't watch anything or listen to music on my phone. (I text, and occassionaly use Google maps.) Checked on my phone and confirmed I haven't been burning data, but I have lots of points so yesterday I bougth more. Today I went online to check and it says I've used up half the data. I am on wifi at home and work. I haven't even pulled out my phone anywhere else today. What on earth is going on?

You mentioned that your data hasn't changed in years so I'm guessing you have an old plan. I would recommend checking what available on your account and see if there something there with more data for around what your paying now.

another advise, PM is using 30 days cycle. So, make sure you Android phone data tracker has the correct cycle start date. (Phone only use monthly tracker and won't change cycle every 30 days)
So, check the current cycle start date on My Account, then update the cycle start date on your Android phone to match this cycle and check the usage again
And PM usage on My Account could be 100Mb over your actual usage. The 100 Mb is just a buffer usage. The 100Mb buffer would reset nightly but it will come back daily 😞 But that 100Mb won't matter if your have a bigger data plan

Android and my phone tracks usage. It says I've used 306 MB data in the last 3.5 weeks and 6.35 GB on wifi in the last month. I can't stand looking at a teeny screen - I'm a desktop person, not a cell phone person.

trust me, you shouldn't rule out leaking data from the poor written apps until you use the data tracker to confirm
if you like, you can open a ticket with PM support, but it is still better if you track the data first and show them with proof if you are that confident it is not your phone
Just open ticket with PM using the Orange Chatbot icon on the lower right. (For 2FA when login, you might need to use email to receive if you cannot receive the text on the phone.) Type the question Submit ticket and select Contact Us to get to ticket open screen

Nope. My data hasn't changed in years. I don't send photos and I'm always on wifi at home and work. There is nothing draining my phone, no app is working behind the scenes. This is a new PM issue, and I'm becoming a little weary with messaging them (always a slightly painful process) only to hear "You have lots of data" That's not what their website says. That's not what the text bot says. It feels like each month it gets just a little bit harder to stay loyal to PM.

Your app updates use data when you are not connected to your home or office wifi. Also if your send MMS (text with photo) will use data. If you use Google Map for directions will drain a lot of data (my employer warned me about using Google Map for direction).
I would suggest you disable Cellular Data in your settings or put your phone on Airplane mode. Enable when you need data.

sometimes, phone uses data faster than we expected. Some poor written or poor configured app could be draining data.
are you using Android or iPhone? you can try to reset the data counter on either OS and keep tracking the data usage for each app from here
also, enable data saver on your phone
