I think it is working when you are connecting to your home WIFI and once you are out of range it is dropping. Try what others have suggested and check your phone settings to make sure you have DATA enabled on your device. Also check the app settings to ensure data is enabled. Let us know if any of this works for you. You should be able to see how many bars / signal strength you have on your phone when you are out. Usually data will need at least 2 bars to work effectively.

Your issue sounds like an app issue more than network. Before you download Google offline map, i suggest you to clear cache and clear app data for Google Map first

Not sure what you mean by cellular enabled. Do you mean data enabled? I've tried turning off Wi-Fi and using data enabled only but Google Maps just quits more quickly. I'll try loading Google Maps offline. Thanks!

are you in city or rural area?
But signal lost is not unusual. This is a combination of network coverage, network bands in the area and device
what phone do you have?
and is network mode set to Automatic? if you are using iPhone, do not use 5G On, use 5G Auto instead.
And for Google Map, it is always good to save offline map
