Going to Mexico

I will be traveling to Mexico in ten days and was wondering if I can have texting/data capability down there and if so, how to go about getting this add on?

@srlawren thanx for clarifying that, lol, I don't travel outside Canada much (and when I do, I have access to an employer-provided, employer-paid-for phone/plan) so I haven't really looked too much into PM's "international" specifics.

@ccooper3

I agree with @denkom, the best option (with an unlocked phone) is probably to purchase a prepaid service plan from some local (Mexican) carrier.  Alternately, you could try out one of the Global SIM services, they're popular with travellers but look too costly to rely on for long-term daily phone service.

"Unlimited International Text" doesn't work outside Canada&US?

They used to call it "Unlimited Global Text" ... the Text options have changed a few times over the last years, my grandfathered plan initially had "Unlimited Canada&US Text" which the billing system has since modified to "Unlimited Canada-wide Text".

Still, names like "Global" and "International" imply something approaching world-wide coverage, at least in civilized countries (like Mexico) lol.

@Korth the global or international refers to what numbers you can text TO, but only while in Canada.

If your phone isn't already unlocked you can get it unlocked here for free and then when you arrive in Mexico you can buy a sim from a local provider to use there.

@ccooper3, you will not be able to use this service in Mexico.  The only country where roaming is available is the US
