So, I went to a Koodo Mobile kiosk over the weekend to ask them some questions about the migration process from Public Mobile. After a few minutes of discussion, I told the Koodo Mobile representative that I wasn't too keen on losing the airtime and data that I've already paid for on Public Mobile and likely won't be migrating this time around.
He then informed me that Public Mobile will be closing shop some time in October / November, and will be rolling all customers into Koodo Mobile. Can someone please give any credence to his statement?
It just doesn't make any sense to me given the existence of Lucky Mobile and Chatr. And it'd be a shame to lose Public Mobile as an option for consumers.
Solved! Go to Solution.

Good to hear. I am very pleased with the service and the cost.

Do not trust the rep of koodo.
We thought koodo and Pm are same company, but there are different company.
The rep of koodo wants to sell koodo products for his company, not PM.
PM is PM, and Koodo is Koodo.
We keep going to use PM service.
Even there are going to close, they will be deal for us with any company as Telus, Koodo, Fido, etc. For it is easy to make more money, good business.
We can just make a decision how to do depend on budget.
do not worry about the future of PM.

Thanks for confirming (on yet another thread on this topic), @Mary_M! Expanding, you say!? I guess PM is proving a very effective foot in the Telus value chain door after all! 🙂

Hey @MKL and to the rest of our community members 🙂
Sorry to hear that you were informed that Public Mobile would be closing down within the next few months. This is inaccurate! I can reassure you that Public Mobile is not going anywhere - we're actually expanding; launching activations and sim cards in retail, offering promotions, etc.
If you ever have any doubts or questions, don't hesitate to reach out to one of the mods!
Cheers,
Mary

I am going to pick 2 because I trust no salesman to look after my interests. Unless lucky and chatr close shop, Public Mobile is going nowhere.

I wouldn't worry - I think Telus needs PM as their "See? We do provide a low-cost carrier and competition is great, etc" excuse as well as using PM to upsell people to their potentially-more-profitable Koodo brand.
Edit: I just want to add that some Koodo reps have been saying this since back in February about PM shutting down, I think I still have a voicemail telling me that too. 🙂

CRTC will not let Telus to close down PM without any advanced notice. Oct/Nov is couple of months away.
Let take Mobilicity as an example. It took Rogers at least one year to move all Mobilicity subscribers to Chatr. Rogers kept all Mobilicity plan as is with any change and monthly cost until a few months ago.
I will not worry about losing my PM plan if Telus moves us to Koodo.

Here's the recent thread where it was discussed:
Here's an article about it:

I'm *pretty* sure what they were thinking of is PC Mobile - there was another thread about this in the last couple weeks, I'll see if I can find it...

Same here. I'll be renewing another 90 days in October, and if I don't see any announcements then... I think we're good?

From what we know pm is not going anywhere as you said especially with chatr and lucky. The Koodo rep probably knows as much as you or I. The only person who shows anything are the higher ups or Telus CEO or maybe Dave and brooke. But everytime this topic comes up the pm staff always say pm is here to stay.

This makes no sense for Public Mobile to close. Koodo retailers have been telling lies about Public since the first wave of the attempted price increase on the Fall 2016 Promo.
Until you see anything in the Announcements Forum, you can't believe anything you are told from Koodo reps regarding Public Mobile.
I'll be renewing 90 days in September which will take me into December. They need to tell me before my renewal if anything is going to happen within that 90 days that may affect my service. I've seen nothing yet.

Interesting I haven't heard of this. I wonder if we would be allowed to keep our current plans. Koodo is a great provider thought, their customer service is top notch!
