Community notifications - they all mark as read

Is there a setting I'm missing in order to only have notifications I've actually clicked on or read that thread mark as read? If there's alot it can get tricky to remember where you left off before... Is this a setting I'm missing, or a bug?

Oh, sorry no I did mean the bell ones. If I have say 2 topics of notifications but have only read one, they both mark as read as soon as the bell is clicked.... 

There's no setting to change in that regard?

@Pawprints1986 hi click your avatar top right corner click subscriptions and notifications in there click notificatios and you have many options to enable or disable

@Pawprints1986 @by notificaions, do you mean email ones? Thanks. These ar my settings. I only receive private message notification email

 You can also enable email notification to receive a private message notification sent to your email.
Go into your community account > my settings > PREFERENCES > Private Messenger > enable "Receive email notifications for new private messages" > Save

I believe that as soon as you click on that "bell" icon, that's what hapens and there is no choice.

@Pawprints1986 , maybe check your profile settings.  Only thing that comes to mind.
