Are there data usage problems with $25 plan

CatCanyon1

My friend has the $25 plan with 500 MB of data. However, he is not able to either send or receive photos. He had an Umidigi phone with an Android OS.

Can anyone please explain how to activate his data?

Thank you

If you're asking about the little app then no it has nothing to do with PM. Someone out in the wilds of the internet made it. The SIM method is easier. geopublic has a better list of ones. wetcoaster could maybe add them to their list.

The app needs you to open some security holes to let it run. Some people may not be comfortable with running apps outside of Play Store.

Thanks for responding. The answer is no... and the "file" is not "editible"...all dull screen.

It sounds like it IS Android 8.1. This is a known problem with other providers as well. The other SIM idea lets you create an APN "profile" for PM and then put the PM SIM back in and switch to that profile and theoretically it would then work.

The little apk app you can download and simply run it and it lets you add/edit an APN.

It's not in the Play Store so you would need to allow some permissions.

Thanks for the suggestions. I found the APN information for PM... Then, on my friend's phone I went to the settings, APN ... only to find the numbers were in an non-edit mode.

When you mention a Freedom SIM card, is this a SIM card I purchase and then follow your suggestions to repopulate the Umidigi followed by a switch in SIM cards? I've never heard of Freedom... is this another service provider?

Thanks again for the lead.

@CatCanyon1

@CatCanyon1 Cards that are known to allow you to add APN entries:

Freedom

Fizz

Roam.com

TelCel

@wetcoaster: Maybe you could add the Roam Mobility SIM option to your macro. 🙂

LOL, it's not even a macro... I only do copy - paste - adapt as necessary. That's why this only works well enough for me on the computer, too small of a display for too many screens/tabs on the phone. 😉

But point taken. Will change it in my template.

Oh I know what you mean. I was doing some replying earlier today on a cell phone and it was just a hassle. And yeah I don't have all the resources at hand on the cell phone. I've done that a couple times before but I keep forgetting how much of a hassle it is.

@CatCanyon1 , the problem is likely with the APN settings.  Please follow the settings from this site.

And if the phone is running Android 8.1 it's quite likely* that you don't have the possibility to change or add an APN profile for Public Mobile.

Other people have had success putting a Freedom SIM in, which seemed to have allowed them to add a new APN, fill in Public Mobile settings, reboot. Put Public Mobile SIM in.

(I think... For me playing with an active SpeakOut SIM eventually populated the Public Mobile APN settings, but I didn't write down the exact steps, sorry.) YMMV.

The relevant post https://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/Phones-Hardware/Android-8-1-APN-settings/m-p/289974/h... in the big Android 8.1 APN thread: https://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/Phones-Hardware/Android-8-1-APN-settings/td-p/241715

Another way to deal with it: https://forums.redflagdeals.com/solved-fido-apn-miui-10-cant-add-apn-2239645/2/#p30756342   (Disclaimer: I have not tried this myself. But have seen several reports that it works.)

*Not sure if Umidigi has changed that by now, but it was definitely the case with the phone I got in fall 2018.
