Ok this took me a while to figure out. Sharing for others with similar issue.
Symptoms and problem
- New Public Mobile base plan $15 / mo, data and talk
- SMS / text and phone works with new Public Mobile plan
- Public Mobile data DOES NOT WORK
- Previous carrier mobile data worked no problem (Freedom)
Phone specs
- Acer T08
- Android 6.0 Marshmallow
- Factory reset
Solution that WORKS
- How to get to the screen below:
- Settings [gear icon] > More > Cellular Networks > Access Point Names
- DELETE the other APN names or ADD and SELECT a Public Mobile one:

Everyone should do the simple procedure first before configure APM manually.
- Enable data
- Install PM SIM card
- Restart you phone to allow PM SIM to configure your APN automatically. If this does not work, manually configure APN as above.
