I paid for 2 $5 mobile data add ons that didn't seem to work, yet they went through on my credit card!

In your self service account, do you see the 250 mB data add on x 2.  It should show up on Overview Tab, click usage breakdown link.  You can also check the payment history to see what happened and whether add ons were purchased successfully.
