I just activated my plan on Sat - $10, 50 min voice, 50 outgoing texts. I set up voicemail and tested it, but have not sent out a text. Just tested voicemail again, and acoount is showing that I've used 13 outgoing texts. Has this happened to anyone else? How do I stop this?

Yup, same thing happens everytime I insert a new sim card into my iPhone as this is how the phone gets activated and updated with the carrier settings.
But not too concerned because it stops and incoming texts are free.

Hi Susan @Susan_L
We had the same problem but in our case lasted about a week & totaled over 20 texts to Apple "474663".
It stopped after about a week but we didn't call in as we weren't texting much & we had camping trips planned so figured we'd make it to the end of the month.
There doesn't seem to be any way to stop them.
Checked our community & apple forums. We turned off MMS messages, even had the phone turned off when not in use, but eventually got to over 20 texts.
All were unsolicited/ not done by us at all & were a bit worried as there's no way t add more, other than PM the Mods. Fortunately, it stopped & we're now into a new month.
PM if you are reading this, here's hoping PM creates an add-on to add more texts. One can add data or LD minutes that can be used just not texts (nor are they available at Koodo Pre-paid - as both usually have texting as part of basic plans). Another option would be a texting plan (possibly with minimal minutes/ data) that is closer in cost to Koodo prepaid ($15-10%).
We are super happy with this plan anyway. It is more of an emergency, occasional plan for now but may change plan if needs change.

Yes, I'm positive. It seems it's using 4 texts to let me know there is a voicemail message, and an additional 3 if I check voicemail from my iphone.
I've sent a message to moderator team - I think there must be something wrong.
Thanks!!

It should be the iphone initiating its services. The outgoing text message should be to the number: 474663. (or something similar). If you check the usage history, you can see the number. Some people saying that it is iphone initalizing imessage or facetime.
For people on unlimited text plan, not a big deal, but with the 50 text plan, it is a significant portion of your 50 texts.

Yes. I have left myself 2 messages, checked once from my iphone, the next I checked from my landline. My account is showing that I've sent 13 texts and I have not sent one.
I agree that I would get a text notifying me of the voicemail message but wouldn't that be incoming? This plan is supposed to have unlimited incoming texts. Even so, I could handle one text each time, but not multiples.

If someone leaves a voicemail for you, the voicemail system will send you a text message to inform you that you have a voice mail. I have not find any way to disable the outgoing ext message. It is only one text message for each voicemail left on my mailbox. Are you sure that there are more than 1 outgoing text message per voicemail left in your mail box?

Thanks!! I'll keep an eye on it (it's been over 24 hours) and will send a message to moderator.

It will eventually stop in the first 24 hours. Same thing happened to me when I put the SIM card in my iphone. I was able to private message the moderator and they were able to credit me the 10 text messages for just the first month. It has not happened since.

This is bad when there is only 50 outgoing text messages.
