@MVP I agree with you that data is overpriced! That said, to evaluate the value of this offer to the customer, you have to look at the market price, not the cost to provide the item. The value is the difference between what it's costing you (zero dollars) and what it would cost you to go and purchase the item ($30 in self-serve). That difference is $30, which is the monetary value of this offer to the referrer and the referree. (Whether or not that extra data is of personal value to someone is another story, of course.)
Take for example an iPhone X, where it came out in the past couple of days that the estimated parts cost is aroun $3xx USD, while the phone retails for $1000+ USD. If someone gave you one for free, they would giving you $1000 of value not $3xx, becuase that's what it would cost if you were to go to the store to buy one.

What would a 1GB of cellular data cost now? Maximum 5-10 $ to an end-user..
@MVP current market pricing of the 1GB data add-on that is being given away here is $30. Granted yes the wholesale cost is probably pennies, but's saving 2 people here (the referrer and the referree) $30 each.
No, sorry, @srlawren , I completely disagree. A $30 (or even more ridiculously $70 !) per GB is an utterly abusive price tag imposed by the Canadian cellular "Big-3.5 🙂 conspiracy" on an average user. "Because they can!" 😉
They admit it openly by themselves, by leaking out a much more reasonable price, e.g through FIDO 15$/3GB plan, which amounts to $5/GB (or even to $2.5/GB with a discount they offer).
So, long story short, the value of the current PM reward is ( most reasonably) about $5 per referral ($10 both sides)... Agree?
It is not up to me to judge how good it is for an average PM user, but I'm feeling overall it is not good enough 🙂

I agree here!

Never understood this logic @Slammer111
If they saw promo came twice and never signed up, why would bringing back same promo a 3rd time be any different/better?
The promo plan was good for many people but not all obviously since many did stay with current carriers
Actually funny side note: Virgin & Fido have INCREASED the monthly fees associated with the $40 promo plans, so anyone who did not jump to Public kinda got

Should make this a permit thing. More of a rewarding thing and not a promotion. As others have said there are better promotions to offer. And Ha why not make the $1 refer amount apply to both the new and existing customer, incentivize them to remember to enter the referral information. At least make the $1 on both sides a permit thing. This data thing better not be replacing the $1 off per month referral in the long term.

Rule #1 when fishing.......
Bait the hook appropriately if you want to increase your catch size or success rate.....
As far as this promo is concerned........all they're doing is washing their hooks.

It' A good offer refferal and extra gig not bad at all.
11-07-2017 11:21 PM
Bought a gig for my mom (talk and text plan) 100 days in she has used 80 mb. To use her number for my next referal or mine, that is the question.

@kav2001c, the data addon is the only addon you can have that doesn't need to be in your base plan. It was even advertised that way by Jeremy as an option.

Can you elaborate, please?
I'm on a talk / text only plan and the data add-on works just fine for my very limited data needs (less than 100MB/30 days). It's also listed as an option in Jeremy_M's post, so I don't see the problem with @ShawnC13's approach.
Are you saying that transitioning to a regular data plan would forfeit what I have left in my data add-on? This doesn't make sense...

For those of us who are purchasing data add ons this is a great promo
Heck for anyone even close to going over data this is a cheaper way to upgrade (think about it for a moment )
11-07-2017 09:10 PM
@cricketfan, it really isn’t a better reward for those of us who will never use it. I do not come close to the data limit on my 90 day plan, and even if I only had half my data, the same plan I had before I go to the Fall Promo last year, I still wouldn’t run out of data.
Sure, if I could choose to give the data reward to someone who could use it, I would be happy to do so. Unfortunately, it would sit on my account wasted as proposed by Public Mobile.
11-07-2017 09:00 PM
It's a better incentive than the $1 for the referrer.
Consider it like a $50 promo with Koodo for both referral/referee.
11-07-2017 08:47 PM
@sacha91, well get around to your other friends and refer some more!
11-07-2017 08:18 PM
Are you kidding me?! I referred someone yesterday... 😞
11-07-2017 08:15 PM
That sounds good, but still waiting for black Friday deal.
11-07-2017 07:46 PM
@Jeremy_M show fall Promo or black Friday deals, I am sure lots folks will be interested , 5GB Data bonus offer will be nice
11-07-2017 04:20 PM
This will benefit some people. I am looking at ways to promote this to friends where if they go their first month without data and use the bonus. So just province wide talk and global text no data vs 1GB of data is only $15 difference. That is out as it is only half the value of what you would be charged to purchase it. I guess it would be to keep something in your data bank. For the heavy data users I do beleive this is a great promo if they can refer 5 people and have that 1GB stack 5 times you are now saving some money. I will still prmote PM on it's strengths of low cost plans as I still believe this is a great service at a good price!!

I am going to agree with @will13am on this one . As much as I want extra data , what I have, is enough for me . Not worth promoting for it. The people around are just not interested with current plans, especially anything that is province call only. Maybe if they bring new good plans I will give them a second thought.
Now I am still riding the Videotron train. Thank you beautiful Ottawa.
PS. I am still having occasional problems calling from Ottawa when I am close to Gatineau (QC) because the network thinks I am out of province .

other companies are charging upwards to70$/ gig on their plans for going over...

Since the award is not recurring, its value is negligible...

And wholesale? A minuscule fraction of it!
Come on, PM, you can do much better!

My father in law wasn't ready to sign up for a new plan at that time, but now that he is, I am definitely hoping that Zoomer will have another promo soon. They seem to have a $40 offering right now for 1gb of data....but i've seen that "promo" a lot on their website. The one my husband singed up for was 2gb of data. I will be curious to see what happens on Black Friday.
If you already have an account with them for more than 6 months, I believe you can add another line at the loyalty price. I think the loyalty rate for 2 gigs, text, unlimited Canada wide calling is $36 with a free phone on a 24 month term. Time to get on the blower and give Zoomer a call when the account matures to 6 months.

@mimmo wrote:@Rustynayl dont forget you can always renew your plan early. Actually PM doent have 4gb LTE plans any more 3 or 5gb
Assuming:
9gb/90 days= 3gb/month if you renew after 2 month = $75/month for 4.5gb
15gb/90 =5gb/month if you renew after 2 month = $90/month for 7.5gb
not great but i still think better then most others.
Systemic early renewal amounts to giving yourself a price increase.

@denkom i too would love to see some "real promotions" alla fall 2016 or 2017, where I couln't stop talking and promoting PM. Untill that happens we just have to compare in market plans to other inmarket plans, and i do think PM is pulling its own weight. In the end everyone makes a decision that they are comfortable with.
as @srlawren mentioned this isn't a "real promotion" but more of a thank you /free gift with purchase.
If the topic of phones does come up i do mention PM to friends, but many like the idea of subsidising phone over 24 months vs buying outright (and they dont care about the extra costs).
