I replied yes but don't see it reflected on my account.  I also have the previous 2gb holiday offer that I haven't used.  Is that why?

Check all of the wireless provider press releases; they always quote postpaid subcriber additions and almost never prepaid.  The implication is that postpaid subcribers are more likely to stay long term (contracts, tabs etc) and are easier to upsell....

For me the only time I notice the speed is when I'm downloading a new app.  On lte it was instant but on 3g, I have to wait upwards of 30 seconds, which seems forever if you watch the download. But instead of having to ration all my usage on lte plan...
