My number is not in service

I just signed up yesterday, and my phone works, but when you call the number, it says " this number is not in service"What can I do to rectify this?

Thank you for responding. I have implemented your suggestions, but I still receive the same message when you dial the number. If you stay on the line, it does connect after 2 sec.
