You can use WhatsApp or TextNow app through wifi for free calling and texting.

Or you can purchase Add-on US Roaming for 10 days of usage on T-Mobile network.

I was just recently in West Maui and everything worked fine. You should be able to at least receive SMS texts. Yes you need roaming add-ons for outgoing and calls and data. You can only connect to T-Mobile. Turn on roaming data for the data if you get roaming data. Maybe your phone is manually set to Public. Set it to T-Mobile or automatic. Maybe your phone is set to 3G/UMTS/WCDMA only. Set it to 4G/LTE if it has it. Hopefully your phone supports 2G (it likely does) as that is the only way to use roaming talk.

@grsanguin   to use the service in US, you have to have US roaming.  Did you get one yet?

If not, a free workaround is to download VoIP app TextNow.  You get to choose a new phone number. Then you can use the app and that new number to make and receive calls, send and receive text for free , as long as you have Wifi and Mobile Data
