Should I turn off my data in order to preserve it when I have access to wifi?

i always do that.. sometimes, your home internet without issue but your phone wifi just disconnected for no reason.. if your data is on and streaming video.. it will go with data un-noticed.. unless your Netflix is set to no download on data connection.
it's troublesome.. but i rather safe than sorry.. (i guess i might be different if i have 20GB plan 🙂 )

My wife shuts off her data on wifi as she worries about her data doesn’t have a big bucket. I leave mine on don’t think it really matters personal choice.

All depends on how much you like your data bucket. Some phones have an optional wifi failover that would connect to cell data when wifi becomes weak or out of range.
I turn everything off until I want it. My motivation is more about battery than saving consumption.
No wifi, bluetooth, cell data, NFC, GPS, radio app not on and no headphones. I could use airplane mode but then I would have no text or calls. At its most basic, it's a phone after all.
