I changed to PM a couple of months ago and realised that I couldn't use the service whilst in the UK. I found a company there called 1pMobile which only deals online. They sell you a sim card for £10 which is loaded with £10 worth of calls, data and texts and mail it to you for free. It takes about 45 minutes to activate once you stick it in your phone and set up an account with a password they send you with the card. You are then charged 1penny per minute of calls, 1p per meg of data and 1p per text message. You can also use it throughout most of Europe. You can easily top up with a credit card if needed.
I was pleasantly surprised that at the end of a 3 week trip and using my phone normally. I ended up with £2.40 left!
