Phone forgets APN settings

Question about APN settings. Currently using a Umidigi Bison. Phone is great but keeps forgetting the APN settings. The phone works fine for a few weeks then will randomly lose APN settings. It isn't' a big problem as I can just simply re-enter the APN settings, but it is frustrating. Does anyone know why this happens?

Thanks in advance.

I have an UMIDIGI Bison as well.  The default Telus/Public Mobile settings don't work and I had to fiddle with the APN settings to get a working version for mobile data.  Two times since (most recently last week) an UMIDIGI update has messed up mobile data.  Now I am scrambling to find the APN details that worked before, again.

Something else which comes to mind --- is it possible your device is 'automatically' switching between 3G and LTE and that 'switch' is somehow affecting the APM you've set?

Try forcing the device into one or the other manually, not allowing it to automatically select one or the other.

Experiment with that for a bit and see if one is more stable with respect to APN settings.

Hi @dj_simms

Try this (not doubting your efforts to 'reset' it every time, just a double-check):

  1. Find a friend who uses Public Mobile and has working mobile data
  2. Go to settings->Wireless & Networks->More->Cellular Networks->Access Point Names(APN) both on their phone and on your phone
  3. Click on the plus sign on the top right corner of your phone to create a new profile
  4. Now write the exact same stuff in the new profile as it is on your friend's working profile
You must rewrite them 1:1 to be an exact copy.
  5. The password is usually the same as the username
  6. After you're done click save in top right and then tap on the new profile you created to enable it

@dj_simms , I have two Umidigi phones (A5 pro, F2).  They work fine.  I have never had or heard of a phone that "forgets" the APN settings.  Generally, the APN settings are stored in an APN configuration file in the system partition.  With the presence of a SIM card, the "potentially matching" APNs are made available to select.  Alternatively, user addition of an APN is available.  It would seem like save data is being deleted errantly.  This is very unusual.

@dj_simms keeps forgetting the settings, strange?

Are you having any other issues with the phone?

Ensure phone has latest software update.

Do a Reset of your Network Settings.

Factory reset as a last resort (ensure you back up data first).
