Kini Mobile Port IN

elwin4297

Was with PM. Switched to Kini. Now regretting and switching back.
Having a problem porting in my number from Kini Mobile.  Have been messaging CS.
Kini provided PIN number did not work.
Confirmed Imei number did not work.
Kini INSISTS they do not account numbers, and my phone number as an account number did not work.
CS service kept insisting on an account number. Kini insisted they have none.

Finally CS said, "got in touch with the porting department to ask for help. They had to escalate the issue to another tech team" Hopefully 24 to 48 hr to sort out.

I hope this will help others who want to switch from PM to Kini or vice versa to plan accordingly.

Kini and PM are both on Telus, but Kini was having frequent call dropoffs. PM never had that.

Hello @elwin4297

I just wish to clarify something so other readers aren't confused.

Yes, Kini Mobile does use the Telus network for their service. Kini Mobile, however, is not owned by Telus. They are owned by Kin Innovations Canada Inc.  They are a MVNO, a Mobile Virtual Network Operator.

Let's get to the other issue about dropped calls. If there were a lot of dropped calls, I would have gone to to the Kini forum and asked for assistance. Usually clearing network settings, then rebooting phone can often resolve that issue. Also, turning on airplane mode for 10 minutes, turning off the phone for 5 and then restarting, turning off airplane mode also reconnects you to a network. To me, if that continued happening, that would have been the result of an incomplete port from PM to Kini. That's just my thought. WiFi calling may have proved that theory if you tried it and got dropped calls on that.

But since you're coming back to PM, once you are fully back, I would suggest doing the above as a precaution as you will have Kini Mobile in your network settings. Best to clear out old network info and start fresh. Then do the airplane mode thing above as well. This basically cements your connection to PM.

At this time, because you've mentioned that Customer Service has escalated your issues to the porting team, I would, at this time, avoid calling any numbers offered to you as this may cause further complications. Public Mobile has a different department that deals with porting on their own customers. That number is more for Koodo and Telus customers and since they aren't the same department, this can cause even further delays resolving your issues.

@elwin4297

Kini is not part of Telus umbrella. They only connect to Telus towers.

I have been though that before. My Pixel has 2 esims. Gave both IMEI to PM with carrier identified for each. Talked to a Kini rep and read my number to her. She agreed it matched. Chatted with CS and confirmed they used the correct one.

@elwin4297

you said you used IMEI but didn't work. Call Kini mobile again, ask them what IMEI showing on the record, then provide PM the same IMEI number

reason is that sometimes, you phone has 2 IMEI, you might have got the wrong one.  Or you might have tested the Kini sim on another phone and Kini record might ended up with a different one

Kini did say that they have NOT seen the request come through. PM cannot send it successfully.
Did call number. Koodo. Chat requested call back.

@elwin4297 yes, seems like you have to work with PM or the porting team to get it resolved.  But did Kini said they dont see the porting request

For the porting team number,  I can't post the number here, but I will message the number to your community inbox.  Please check and call them
