There isn't much to stop the service if you have already paid for a plan as you won't get credited for any unused portion but if you are going away and don't want it to autorenew because you have funds in your account or have autopay setup you can report your phone lost/stolen and that won't allow it to renew. How ever doing this can have an effect on your rewards when you start the service up again.
