Yes. Brand new with a pretty silly question. I’ve signed up, asked to have my old number ported (understand it can take some time). Question is, do I receive some sort of notice from PM that my service is now up and alive, or do I reinsert the old SIM and stay on the old service until it stops?

@computergeek541 the text message saying "your port is complete, welcome to pm" comes from 83585

I don't remember exactly the number it comes from. I did one back in March and there was no text message received after the porting was done. For every port that I've witnessed before, whether within the family or if it was a friend, the customer always received a text message about it. It says something along the lines of a successful transfer and welcome to Public Mobile.

@gblackma wrote:@Cmc Stay on the old service until it stops. You should be able to make calls and send texts using your PM SIM. And receive calls and texts from your old providers SIM. If you ported from another cell provider. It could take up to 3 hours. Welcome to PM. Once it stops working your port is done. Stay safe.
Ideally, you would have two different phone devices, one compatible with each carrier. This is because Public Mobile does send a text message out to the customer allerting of porting complettion. Also, text message from Telus, Koodo, and Public Mobile customers will not go to your old provider, even if t the porting isn't yet complete. So, if you only keep your old carrier's sim card in a phone, you won't receive text message from some people until you insert your Public Mobile sim card.

Public Mobiles does in fact send a text message out when porting is complete, but the Public Mobile sim card must be in a compatible phone to receive it. However, I will say that I've done a few lines, and while that text message is sometimes received, other times, it randomly isn't.
