Good morning!

It’s unmissable that every year Apple releases a new iOS update that’s packed with new features. 2023 is no exception, but one particular feature could change the way you use your mobile device’s voicemail. It’s called Live Voicemail, and we’re going to explain how this new feature will interact with Public Mobile services.

What is Live Voicemail?

Apple's Live Voicemail lets you get a real-time transcription of a voicemail. You can also answer the call while the message is being left. The goal of this feature is to help you filter out unwanted calls and decide whether to answer a call from someone you know.

Device Support

These iPhones are compatible with iOS 17 and can support Apple's Live Voicemail:

  • iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR
  • iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max
  • iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max
  • iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max
  • iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max
  • iPhone SE 2 and iPhone SE 3

How it works
Live Voicemail only works in Canada, when the phone is turned on and within a mobile network coverage area. The device must be in English, as other languages (such as French) are not currently supported.

Impact on Public Mobile voicemail

  • Transcription : Transcriptions will be in English. Any other language may result in garbled text.
  • Block Option : A “Block” button will appear while the message is being transcribed and if you press it, the caller will be blocked. The block option will only appear if the caller is not in your contact list.

Additional information

  • Live Voicemail does not work while roaming.
  • This feature aims to combat the increased number of unwanted calls and help you decide whether or not you want to answer calls from people you know.

We hope this information answers your questions about the new iOS update and the Live Voicemail feature.
