Funny. I was offered a free esim a few months ago.  Oh well. 

Yea it doesn't. I just finished reading the Sim. 

Also make sure your VPN and other security is off while setting up your new phone for the first time. Make sure data is on. 

It is your Sim. New one is. Needed or esim for that phone will work. Try adjusting your Sim to Lte first. This worked for SMS ect. I also need new esim for 5g. Good luck! 

Try setting your Sim card to lte first. Don't know your phone but it worked for me right away.
