I had to remove my SIM card to get the eSIM setup.. did not think I had to put my SIM card back to get the verification code since it said it could take 5hrs. Once I put my old SIM card back in I received all the code and missed the posting text.
Try taking out your current SIM card and restart your phone. I’m just past that stage. Now I am not receiving sms (code) that they are trying to get me to verify.
