Unfortunately, that checker isn't reliable for compatibility. It would be nice if it was. It seems it might be more reliable for whether or not the phone is blacklisted though. So that's one thing anyway.

And besides...if you bought a PM SIM recently then it should be the triple-punch where you can re-use each size by re-inserting into the size up.

Both phones use the nano SIM card size, so you're fine; you don't need a different SIM card.

Just a suggestion... if you are going to pay full price then don't buy it from Telus.
Get it unlocked from the Apple Store...
This is a huge advantage for when you travel, or if you need to sell the phone one day.

Yes, in order to work with Public Mobile, a phone must be either unlocked or locked to Telus/Koodo.
As for hardware compatibility, the iPhone 7+ will work fine. You can verify on this site: http://willmyphonework.net/
