Successful Ports Thread

outdoorsaddix
Model Citizen / Citoyen Modèle

As per a suggestion from another user in another thread who thought we needed some positive experiences posted, I am going to try and get this going as I have two very recent successful ports.

So with all the negative experiences getting posted because of the presumably huge number of new activations due to the $40 promo, lets try and get some positive experiences posted. I figure we can use the following format:

Date of Port

Time of Day

City/Province

Old Provider

Time for Port to Complete

I have two so I will start us off!

Port #1 (My wife's cell)

Date: Wendesday November 2nd

Time: 11PM

Time: 6PM
City/Province: Oshawa, Ontario
Old Provider: Telus (corporate plan)

PM is being great to me so far 🙂

@awesomeness that link is a featured topic that @Val_T posted on Thursday... glad you were able to find it through other means. Here's her post: http://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/Getting-Started/For-new-customers-How-to-Port-Your-Num...

Do-it-yourself porting is definitely more daunting than calling up (or waiting in a store) and then having someone do it. If you're not very receptive, you may run into problems, but as @Rockdaddy22 has been saying, it makes him happy when people are successful with their own ports! He's the porting cheerleader! Robot LOL

I love seeing people port themselves, it's nice to see.

Selecting the 40$/12GB plan got me confused as there was no "direct" plan . Took me few mins searching the forums and ended up with this awesome link:

http://www.iphoneincanada.ca/how-to/how-to-port-switch-public-mobile/

^^ should be made sticky.

Took 2 mins to port from Koodo after new number activation.

I activated two accounts. One for my fiancée and one for myself. Her's had 0 issues. I only had a timeout page come up when I clicked proceed on one of the pages, so I had to restart my activation. However one I finished the activation, I already started receiving text messages about my pin, while my Koodo sim was still in my phone!

Old Provider: Koodo
Time to Complete: 2 Days, but really 3 minutes

The instructions were to create a new number for koodo members and use the contact-us functionality. That is what I did but after 2 days and a half still no response from anyone. I've digged in to the community forum and I saw some people having a successful port through the My account portal. I proceeded as per the forum post, and my phone was ported instantly.

I had to check availability twice on the port form as received an error saying I need to be authorized, second time it went through.

Date: Sunday November 6

Time: 9AM

City/Province: Toronto, Ontario

Old Provider: Koodo

Time to Complete: 2-3 minutes

I originally created a new account because it said to if you were a Koodo subscriber and to contact PM.  I ended up going into self serve myself and did the port myself and it went through successfully.

I entered my Koodo number and clicked "check eligibility".  Then it asked for a few things.

-I went into my Koodo bill to get my account number

-I left IMEI blank

-I didn't know my PIN so I left that blank,

-for alternate number I just put in the phone number I was trying to port in

-I entered my name for the account

-checked the box "I am authorized to transfer this phone number" and clicked confirm.

the porting completed in a matter of minutes.

Old Provider: Koodo
Time for Port to Complete: instantaneous (right after popping/reinserting SIM)

A bit of an issue with the self serve website to change my number to initiate the Port. Had to hit the Check Eligibility button after all the fields were filled in, toggle the authorize check box, before it allowed me to submit the Port request. I guess the verbal PIN number is specific to Telus/Koodo accounts. Had to dig it up since I rarely needed customer support with Koodo.

APN settings were automatic entered when first activated. Was my quickest activation & port ever!

I had a number of issues, but got it sorted.

Computer froze mid-activation, this didn't seem to cause any issues other than a time delay.

I couldn't port my number, but eventually tried taking the dashes out of my old account number - bingo.

My phone was locked (whoops!), so an hour of that was driving around to get it unlocked.

Texting was buggy, in that I could send and receive texts, but they didn't actually show up in the text log. Turned out my phone had for some reason backdated itself to Oct 30th. The new texts were ordered according to their perceived transmission date. Fixed the date - fixed the problem.

I had no internet. Perusing the forum led me to the APN change. Problem solved.

All good! And now I have reception service in my house, instead of having to go to the front porch to see if I've had calls / messages!

Date of Port: Nov 3/16

Time of Day: 10am

In the "name" field I entered my full name exactly as originally registered with SO.

For "account" I entered my SO phone number (10 digits).

For "IMEI" I used the IMEI code from my first SO phone (not my later iPhone).

When completed PM sent me a text saying I was good to go.

I am one of people that got the alternate regen error during the porting process.  So I PMed one of the Public Mobile moderators with my info that includes SIM #, phone #, name, Account # and email.  Then this morning at around 8:30 am, I tried it again and it went smoothly.  Now officially using the 90 days 12GB plan.  Initial setup was a hassle if you encounter that error but other than that, the rest of the day my plan is smooth.

I've always loved these kind of threads 🙂 It definitely cheers me up, thank you.

I'm so happy your ports went smoothly, just like most of the ports/activations actually do.
