It would be nice if after hitting your data limit, your data keeps working but at reduced speeds (2G speeds ~128kbps) for basic tasks. If you need high-speed data, you can purchase an add-on just like you could already do. This is something a lot of carriers in the US are adopting and some in Canada are doing too.

Yeah this would be a good idea, but unfortunately it will never happen with a company like public mobile. There are certain things that public mobile cannot control and this is one of them. Telus pretty much will give them what they want and public mobile just tries to keep costs down as much as possible (no stores, no customer service line etc). They are doing a great job of having a well knit community and offering rewards for people who help out as well which makes it possible to not have customer service.

Plus 4GB is plenty of data especially for 40/month 😉

Well. at 40$ what do you want ? Also PM infrastructure doesn't work on 2G network. Only 3G and 4 G. Actually it's not fair. What make you buy a expensive plan if you know that buying the cheapest one with 1 Gb of data and have unlimited data.. And 3G speed it's very fast btw.

@m99 as much as some would like to see this, I think that @meekju1339 and @Ionut have raised some excellent explanations as to why it's unlikely.  Unfortuantely, if you need a lot of data (at whatever speed), PM is probably a poor choice for you, to be completely honest.

For some perspective on this request, try talking to the former Wind subscribers in the community that have moved to PM. I think you will find the majority of them are okay with having a first-rate 3G+ & 4G network that works reliabily, and are happy to sacrifice "unlimited" plans in the process.  PM has done a great job of quality over quantity in regards to their data plan offerings, even though I do think the data add-ons are overpriced and a poor value.

Having a soft cap would be a nice perk to use in case of reaching limit towards end of a cycle and would hardly cost that much for Public Mobile if speed was capped at 128Kb and just used for web surfing and basic use. Chatr and Wind both already offer this. The vale that PM provides for their current plans is undeniable but it can always be improved and providing this would not be that much hassle or costly. If cost is a concern for PM, maybe it can be added as add-in for like $5.00 for unlimited 256Kb/s data option.

This idea has already been flushed out. PM has changed the status to Not For Us...

While it's true it won't happen, would be nice to see PERHAPS SOME, Limited Soft Cap when accessing emails, that would be MY Opinion, just for email stuff, not twitter, FB or any other

@makkahn28 can I refer you to a few other carriers that offer soft caps you might enjoy?  😉

@srlawren, Public Mobile is certainly my fav Carrier, I wouldn't leave for the generic brands, BUT, as saying goes, tweaks, tune ups do wonders, and I think PM could always do tweaks from time to time that may offer even more robust options.

Wind, well they're not as trendy, perhaps overly windy, but not trendy, network spotty

Bell, Rogers, well, they may have great networks, BUT fees are way tooooo costly

PM is certainly the best hands down

What happens to data after I use up 12gb in 90 days? No more data?? I pay $30 for 1gb extra over 90 days???? So if I use 15gb like I do with Wind over 90 Datsun paying $90 extra?? Would-be $210 for my90 plan. $30 more a month than Wind but I'm fed up with them
