I signed up with Public Mobile and ported my number last night but I still don’t have service.

Yes, try removing your old SIM card. The reboot your phone.
Check your phone settings to see whether you see the PM eSIM card installed.

Did you activate physical SIM card versus eSIM? Did you respond yes to your original carrier port request text?
Any service at all? Able to use data? incoming versus outgoing calls and texts?
