4G vs LTE vs 5G

You know this sounds kinda funny, that 2g was GSM, 3g had many variations, CDMA, WCDMA

then 4G, then LTE, now 5G

Wonder, if 5G is essentially LTE, or a variation of LTE, or a separate entity within its own right

@makkahn28

Actually, LTE is so called 4G. At first, the requirements for 4G standards set by ITU-R, the peak speed requirements for 4G service at 100 Mbit/s for high mobility communication such as from trains and cars, and 1 Gbit/s for low mobility communication such as pedestrians and stationary users. But, there are not other beyond-3G technologies can meet the requirement sothat the ITU-R accept LTE as 4G even its first-release version supproting less than 1 Gbit/s. LTE advanced is more close to 4G it used to be. However, some carriers call LTE Advanced as 4.5G especially in China. For the 5G, there is no any standard has been released based on my knowledge.
